This past week members of the CHARM lab once again visited the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention at Education for an information session and Narcan training. Executive Director Aimee Hourigan and Assistant Director of Outreach and Communication Nikki Prude introduced our students to SAPE programs like Gamecock Recovery and Carolina Community Coalition. Our students also completed a training on naloxone administration so that they are equipped to assist when community members are presenting with signs of overdose. The University of South Carolina has been providing naloxone training since August 2022. USC was the first university in the state to be designated a Community Distributor through the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services. CHARM lab members also had the chance to check out the SAPE office’s new Gamecock Recovery Lounge in Carolina Coliseum 4001. For more information about SAPE’s programming, please visit their website. And stay tuned for our upcoming Recovery Ally session hosted at the Arnold School of Public Health.
