As part of her ongoing work with colleagues at University at Buffalo and Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Fillo published a study in the journal, Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research, focused on the relationship between military sexual trauma and alcohol use. The study found that female soldiers reported trauma at more than twice the rate of their male counterparts. However, male victims of military sexual trauma reported higher rates of alcohol consumption, more frequent heavy drinking and experienced more alcohol-related health problems. Kudos to Dr. Fillo for her ongoing commitment to better health outcomes for military populations!
