We’re looking for military-affiliated college students to participate in a one-time online study about their experiences in college and military environments.

Study Focus

The SAFE study examines the experiences of military-affiliated students attending universities in the NCAA SEC Conference

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • Currently or recently enrolled in undergraduate college courses
    • Spring and/or Summer 2025
    • Including recent graduates
  • Current or prior affiliation with the US Armed Forces
    • Current service (active/reserve/National Guard)
    • Prior service (veteran)
    • ROTC
  • 18 years or older

Study Components

Screening Survey

Fill out the brief online screening to help us determine if you are eligible to participate. It only takes a few minutes!

Pre-Interview Survey

Once your interview is scheduled, we’ll send you a link to fill out a short online pre-interview survey. This takes ~15-20 minutes to complete.

Interview

Participate in an online interview with one of our research staff. You’ll answer questions about  your experiences on your college/university campus. This takes ~60-90 minutes to complete.

Compensation

Once all parts of the study are complete, you will be sent a link to redeem a $40 egift card to a retailer of your choice.

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of the research is to better understand the experiences of college students who are currently or were previously affiliated with the US Armed Forces (i.e., currently serving, veteran, ROTC).

This information will help inform the development of programs, services, and resources for this unique population.

Who is eligible to participate?

You must be at least 18 years old, currently or recently enrolled in undergraduate classes at a college/university, and have current or prior affiliation with the US Armed Services (i.e., ROTC, currently serving, prior service).

What does participation involve?

You will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire and a one-time online interview (~60-90 min). There is no long-term follow-up or commitment required.

Will I be compensated for participating?

Participants will receive a $40 egift card upon completion of the study. 

What are the benefits of participating?

We cannot promise any benefits from taking part in this research. This study is not designed to provide any services or treatments.  

A possible a benefit is that you will find participation interesting and gain insight into your experiences in military and college environments.  

What happens to the information I share while participating?

Any information you provide is kept strictly confidential and used for research purposes only. Your name will not be identified in this study or in the information we collect. Your participation is confidential and information about your participation will not be shared with anyone outside our study team.
